EDINBURGH, FALKIRK LIFT SCOTTISH CUPS

edinburgh kool katsEdinburgh Kool Kats retained the women’s Scottish Cup by thrashing Glasgow Rocks 72-62  at Paisley’s Lagoon Centre.

The capital outfit, sparked by 20 points and 17 rebounds from Hannah Peacock, pulled away after leading by just two at the break.

“It was all about grit, determination and just never giving up,” said the Edinburgh forward Lauren Walker. “The score looked easier than it was. We were a real team.”

Former Rocks guards Scott Russell and Keith Bunyan scored 18 points apiece as Falkirk Fury lifted the Scottish Cup by drubbing St. Mirren 79-59.

The league champions-in-waiting edged 35-31 ahead at half-time before Jonny Bunyan extended Falkirk’s cushion to eleven in the third. And although Saints cut the gap to five with seven minutes left, Russell – the MVP of the final – ignited the Fury’s decisive surge.

“It was scrappy,” said Keith Bunyan. “But it was all about the result. We’ve all but wrapped up the league so we wanted to make sure we didn’t slip up in the Cup. It’s been a fantastic season. But now the goal is to stay unbeaten right to the end.”

Tom Skinner and Sam Stott led Boroughmuir Blaze to the U18 Men’s Cup while St. Mirren made it a triple disappointment for the Rocks with victories over their Glasgow rivals in the Under 16 and 18 women’s finals.
