PRUNTY CONTINUES AS GB COACH

1. Standard Life GB head coach, Joe PruntyJoe Prunty has agreed a new deal to remain as Great Britain’s head coach for this summer’s EuroBasket qualifiers.

The American, currently the lead assistant with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, will take the helm for a second campaign after guiding the side to the brink of the second round of last September’s finals in Slovenia.

He made a positive impression with his commitment, talking often about building “a GB family” and a sustainable approach which has seen him in regular contact by phone and email with players on both side of the Atlantic.

Having been given approval by the Nets to stay in, it was an easy decision.

“Once I signed on last year, I’ve always been committed to the programme,” Prunty explained.

“I did change jobs in the United States and I wanted to get approval from the Brooklyn Nets. I spoke with management and the coaching staff. I’m really excited to still be involved with Great Britain and look forward to continuing. ”

The qualifying series in August is central to GB’s hopes of reaching the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio – with qualifying spots up for grabs through next year’s EuroBasket finals in Ukraine.

It is understood Matt Johnson will not return as coach of the GB Under-20 Women’s team with national teams director Warwick Cann making approaches to other potential candidates.
