Kavell Bigby-Williams Commits to Montana State University

England Under-18 big man, Kavell Bigby-Willams, has verbally committed to Montana State University for the 2014/15 season.

The 6’9″ forward, who plays under Steve Bucknall at Lewisham Thunder, will be the second English man on the Bobcats’ roster, joining Bradley Fisher, who committed in August.

Kavell’s commitment makes it three Brits who will now be involved with the MSU basketball programme, as former England and GB international big man Chris Haslam is an assistant coach there

“I feel very fortunate to be recruited by MSU as it is a great program and I’m just excited to be a part of it next year,” said Kavell when talking to Hoopsfix.

“I’m looking forward to playing against better competition – I see myself being an athletic type player for them, who can run the floor, grabs rebounds, block shots and finish around the rim.

“I chose MSU because they’ve shown a lot of interest – their head coach came to see me play at the Europeans this summer, and have also visited me at school (Harris Academy Beckenham). I feel this is the right fit for me in terms of competition too, they play in the Big Sky Conference, which is at the mid-major level where I feel I can excel.”

Bigby-Williams has a season to prepare for the transition to the US, adding he aims put on weight and get stronger, and develop a more consistent jump shot to evolve into a stretch four.

He was part of England’s first ever Under-18 squad to compete in Division A this summer at the European Championships, averaging 5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.

The 1995 born Londoner also had interest from Elon, Davidson and Maine.

Hoopsfix wants to wish Kavell all the best with his college career, we will be following!
