England Under-18s’ hopes of reaching the Division A European Championship quarter finals were dealt a blow on Tuesday night when they suffered a 57-37 loss to Italy in Latvia.
The result means a must-win game against hosts Latvia on Wednesday to avoid the 9th-16th place classification games.
England had a slow start against Italy, scoring just two points in the opening quarter to go down 12-2 and were chasing from behind the rest of the way. Despite reducing the deficit at times, they were never able to get over the hump as no players reached double digits.
Kingsley Okoroh led England scorers with 8 points and 10 rebounds, Mo Soluade finished with 7 points and Kavell Bigby-Williams added 6 points and 12 rebounds.
England will now face Latvia on Wednesday at 4:30pm UK time.
