Great Britain Under-20s completed an undefeated trip in Europe, as they beat Hungary 78-68 on Saturay night in Portugal.
Head coach Doug Leichner’s side is now 7-0 in their warm-up games as they return home for a two game series against Holland next week.
Devon van Oostrum followed up his 39 point outing against Portugal with 30 against Hungary, along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists, Rowell Graham added 11 points and 10 rebounds, Joe Hart finished with 9 points and Zak Wells had 8. Raphell Thomas-Edwards had 7 points and 11 rebounds.
“Hungary started the game with intensity and enthusiasm and we were deservedly behind at half,” said Leichner after the game. “In the second half, we got back to playing our style of basketball predicated on defense, rebounding and limiting our turnovers. To the players credit, we shared the ball and took better accountability on the defensive end.
“I thought we executed well in the second half with Joe Hart hitting some dagger 3’s to spark a run. Raphell Thomas-Edwards and Rowell Graham were very active on the boards and both hit some key baskets leading to the win.
“Playing in Portugal has been a great learning experience and we’re looking forward two playing back in the UK against the Dutch in Ipswich on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
GB will look to keep their winning streak going on Tuesday night at the Copleston Centre in Ipswich, as they face Holland at 7pm (ticketing details here), before playing Game 2 on Wednesday afternoon.
