EAGLES CRUSH SHARKS IN OPENING LEG

BBL LOGO 568Newcastle Eagles will take a 15-point advantage into Monday’s second leg of their BBL play-off quarter-final with Sheffield as they picked up an 85-70 victory at Sport Central on Friday.

A big second quarter from the Eagles was enough to pick up the victory as they outscored the Sharks 32-8 to lead 50-28 at the half.

The Sharks tried valiantly to get themselves back into the contest, and spent the majority of the second half closing the deficit to leave themselves with some hope.

Kareem Maddox led all scorers in the game with 19 points for the Eagles, while Demetrius Jemison led the Sharks with 18.

Leicester Riders were made to battle hard to eventually pick up a 70-68 victory at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

The capital side – paced by a game-high 20 points from Orlan Jackman – had lead early on in the contest, and were seemingly in control by the half where they had lead by eight points at 38-30.

The second half however was a different story as the Riders got themselves right back into the contest, and a 7-0 start to the final quarter saw the Riders take the lead at 53-57.

Four points from Tayo Ogedengbe with 1:12 remaining in the game bought the home side back to trail 67-66, but the Riders held the Lions off and secured the two-point advantage to head into the second leg at the John Sanford Centre on Saturday.

Jay Couisnard led Leicester with 17.
