Sheffield Hallam Take the 2013 BUCS Trophy

Sheffield Hallam finished the season undefeated and took the 2013 BUCS Trophy title after beating Edinburgh 78-59 in the final at Leeds Metropolitan University on Tuesday evening.

Hallam are bearing the fruits of their partnership with the BBL’s Sheffield Sharks which was amalgamated in 2011, as they went 10-0 in Northern 1A action, and 5-0 in their run to the Trophy to pick up their second title of the season.

“It feels good (to go undefeated),” said Hallam head coach Atiba Lyons, who doubles up as Sharks’ head coach. “I’m proud of the guys, I’m glad they achieved this. For the university, I think they’ve showed their dedication to the sport now and how they’re trying to build something at Hallam.”

Sheffield have had only 1 game all season that was within single digits, regularly blowing out the opposition.

“Edinburgh were very strong,” Lyons continued. “They came out and played us really strong defensively and took us out of our rhythm a lot. And in the fourth quarter/end of the third, we kinda got a bit of rhythm and were able to take the lead.”

Zach Gachette (25 points) and Nick Lewis (24 points) combined for 49 points to lead SHU, whilst Edinburgh were led by Ryan Webb’s 17 and Kirkpatrick’s five threes to finish with 15.
