There was a bit of drama in the BBL this weekend, as an old rivalry was renewed when Cheshire took on Manchester at the Northgate Arena.
Cheshire veteran Chez Marks hit an improbable turn around fadeaway three with seconds remaining, to push the Giants to their fifth straight loss. It wasn’t without controversy though, as Giants coach Jeff Jones insists he called a timeout.
“The game was won by Cheshire in an amazing climax, as the Giants led 81-80 with 18 seconds left.
Veteran Chez Marks, who hounded the visitors from behind the three-point line, put up a two-point effort and when that attempt missed, he grabbed the rebound and, moving away from the basket, fired home a stunning turn-around jump shot three-pointer to seal victory and kill the Giants’ hopes of securing a first away win.
Jones called for a time-out but didn’t get one. With the game stats showing five seconds to go – even if the courtside clock showed significantly less – there would have been time to launch a final attempt at a winner.
It didn’t come, leaving the Giants chief angry, saying: “I signalled to call a time-out. They said I didn’t and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
Footage has finally surfaced – check it out below:
