GB Fall to Tunisia as Injury Crisis Looms

GB Head Coach Chris Finch

GB Head Coach Chris FinchGreat Britain fell to a 73-69 defeat at the hands of Tunisia in Lille on Saturday evening, but more worryingly have suffered a number of injuries to key players with a week to go until the Olympics.

Dan Clark picked up an ankle injury in the loss, though it remains unclear how severe it is, Joel Freeland sustained a knee injury and has been flown back to the UK for tests, whilst Mike Lenzly has suffered a suspected torn calf muscle during GB’s loss to USA in Manchester on Thursday.

The injuries come as a severe blow to GB’s Olympic preparation, and could result in call ups for previously cut players. Ian Whittell is reporting the British Olympic Association have confirmed to GB they can bring in players outside the 13 they named at the start of July (Ogo Adegboye was the first reserve), should they need to.

Luol Deng also sat out the loss to Tunisia as a precaution, with Pops Mensah-Bonsu stepping up in his absence to the tune of 21 points, with Dan Clark and Ogo Adegboye adding 13 points each (source).

GB will now play Belgium this afternoon in their final warm-up before the Olympics begin next Sunday.
