The first ever 3-on-3 National Championship Tournament will take place in Sheffield at the beginning of July, furthering FIBA’s recent push of the 3 on 3 basketball format.
The outdoor tournament, taking place during the weekend of 7-8 July, at the Meadowhall Shopping Centre, encompasses every possible age group from Under 13 to a Masters competition and all categories are open to both males and females.
England Basketball’s Marketing Liasion Officer Todd Cauthorn told Hoopsfix he is looking forward to the event:
“3on3 Basketball is a form of the sport that is exciting, fun and caters for players with any ability FIBA and FIBA Europe are committed to driving 3on3 and I feel that events like this can inspire participants to play more basketball all year round. An event of this magnitude coming to England is a huge opportunity and Meadowhall have been fantastic with their cooperation.”
Cauthorn added EB hopes for it to become an annual event.
There will be eight courts running, dunk and three-point competitions, dancers, and prizes and giveaways up for grabs in a full weekend of outdoor basketball action. Funky Town will be holding it down on the mic all weekend whilst competitors will receive a reversible FIBA Europe jersey to keep and wear on the day and winners from each age category will receive a ticket to a GB international game in Sheffield.
