RICHARDS OUT OF SWISS SIDE

Great Britain international Ryan Richards has left Swiss side Lugano Tigers in another strange twist to his stop-start career.

The 20-year-old forward, who was averaging 11.2 points per game, joined the team last autumn after sitting out an entire season due to injury.

The move is a concern to British Basketball officials as they finalise their training camp roster ahead of the Olympic Games with the young prospect once again finding his ambitions under question after another abortive overseas stint.

Richards, chosen in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs, was the final cut in the GB squad last summer ahead of EuroBasket.

His departure from Lugano, according to media sources, was down to “personal reasons.”

In his young career, Richards has previously had stints with Gran Canaria in Spain, Mons in Belgium and Monthey in Switzerland.

However the Swiss League leaders have maintained their UK connection by signing Manchester-born forward Nick George until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old, who has come out of retirement, could yet force his way back into the GB reckoning.
