NCAA: FRASER MAINTAINS CHARGE

GB Under-20 forward Alasdair Fraser continued his recent NCAA scoring tear with a career-high 25 points against Binghamton.

Fraser shot 11-17 from the field and corralled eight rebounds in Maine’s first conference game of the season.

He followed that up with a double-double against UMBC, putting up 16 points and 11 boards.

The Black Bears won both games comfortably, and look like serious contenders in the America East conference, especially if Fraser continues his recent form.

GB forward Ashley Hamilton returned to action after missing almost six weeks through injury.

Hamilton scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds while turning the ball over four times. He was 4-8 from the field and 7-10 at the free throw line.

“It was obviously huge to have Ashley back in the line-up as he gives us a post presence,” said LMU coach Max Good.

It was a week of contrasts for Ben Mockford, as the 6-2 shooting guard went scoreless on 0-6 shooting against Quinnipiac before dropping a career-high 28 points on Sacred Heart.

Mockford’s eight three-pointers are the most made in a single game by any player in the Northeast Conference this season. He is joint-16th in the country in three-pointers made, with 48 on the season.

Andrew Lawrence led Charleston with 14 points against Wofford on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Cougars falling to their first Southern Conference loss. Charleston bounced back to blow out Furman in their next game, but Lawrence only played 16 minutes as he got into foul trouble early on. He finished with seven points, one assist and three turnovers.

Shane Walker didn’t have one of his better weeks. The 6-10 forward went just 1-6 from the field and had four turnovers as his Loyola Maryland team lost to Niagara, though solid work at the line and on the glass ensured he finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Walker had 11 points, four rebounds and three blocks in the next game, but finished the week with a two-point, four-rebound outing against Canisius.

Ovie Soko recorded a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double against Florida thanks to some relentless offensive rebounding, though the 6-8 forward could have had an even bigger night had he not blown several close-range shots in the first half. Soko’s offense was much worse in UAB’s next game, however, as he went 1-11 from the field for seven points. The Londoner added five points, three assists and two steals as the Blazers went down to Memphis in their conference opener.

Aaron Geramipoor seems to have cemented his place in the Seton Hall rotation. He scored six points and grabbed a career-high six boards in ten minutes as the Pirates beat Providence on Saturday. Earlier in the week, he fouled out after only five minutes in a shock victory over No. 8 Connecticut.

After a slow start, Danny Carter is finally getting consistent minutes for Stony Brook. The former Reading Rocket played at least 10 minutes in SBU’s three wins this week. His best game came against Albany on Sunday when he had three points, two boards and a block in 14 minutes.

Joe Ikhinmwin is another player who has seen a recent increase in his minutes. Ikhinmwin, a Barking Abbey product, played 12 minutes against South Carolina and 14 against Morgan State, registering 11 points and two rebounds in the latter game.

Phil Wait had two of his best games of the season this week. The 7-foot Mancunian scored seven points in a victory over Mount St Mary’s, then followed that up with a nine-point, three-rebound outing against Wagner.

Northwestern played only once this week, with Alex Marcotullio recording four points and three rebounds in the game.
