The newest addition to the Great Britain training camp roster battling for a spot at the London 2012 Olympics could be an Australian, if rumours swirling in New Zealand are to be believed.

Daryl Corletto, a 30 year old guard currently playing his club basketball with the NZ Breakers, has told media outlets he has made it as far as Great Britain’s 18-man squad which will be whittled down to 12 for the Games.

The sharpshooter told stuff.co.nz that GB staff have been keeping an eye on him for the past couple of years:

“They [GB] contacted me two years ago, and said they were going to keep an eye on me, I’m just waiting to receive an email from the coach, but they are talking about a camp in April.

“They’ve seen tapes and saw me [play for the Melbourne Tigers] in Ireland last year, and they said they would keep a lookout this year to see how I’m going. If we keep winning I might be all right.”

Corletto, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has spent most of his life there, has a British passport and qualifies via his parents who were both born here. Footage of the 6’3″ guard, who is currently averaging 12.3 points in the NBL on 48.9% shooting, can be viewed below:
