Edo Lawrence Commits to Princeton

Edo Lawrence

Edo Lawrence (1993 born) has committed to NCAA Division 1 school Princeton for the 2012/13 season.

The 7’1″ centre who currently attends Canterbury School in Connecticut, will be the tallest player to ever suit up for the Tigers.

Talking to Hoopsfix, Lawrence explained why he chose the Ivy League school:

“My biggest priority was academics, and Princeton is one of the best in the world. When I am done there it will give me a lot of opportunities that I wouldn’t have if I had taken a scholarship at a less academic school. I thought Coach Henderson is ambitious, he used to play for Princeton and he has a lot of pride in the program, and he will carry their success on.

“I am just looking forward to the whole experience. The freedom of college as opposed to the boarding school I am at now, and just the experience of being a basketball player at Princeton. It is a special place to go to school, and the opportunity to be in such an intellectual environment as well as play D1 is lucky.”

Furthermore, the fast developing big man going into his second season with Canterbury has no doubt he will be able to contribute right away:

“I should be able to play and contribute right away, which is another good thing as it will help me to develop. I have only played 3 years and I feel I am developing rapidly, especially the summer that just passed, so think I should be able to help immediately. I need to get stronger, as well as improve my shot 15 feet away from the basket, especially as that is important in the Princeton offense.”

Lawrence, who played for London United the last year he was in England, had offers from many different schools, including Yale, Davidson and Northwestern.`
