Great Britain Under-20 Ryan Richards (1991 born) is making a return to Switzerland next season to play for LNA defending champions and cup-winners Lugano Tigers, according to Sportando Basket.
The move comes as no huge surprise, after a possible return to Europe was first mentioned by Richards almost three weeks ago in an interview with Kent News when he said:
“I’ll probably be coming back to Europe to start with next season to prove myself. I just want to show I have what it takes to help the Spurs win.”
The San Antonio Spurs second round draft pick last appeared in Switzerland at the end of the 2009-10 season, suiting up for BBC Monthey where he averaged 13.3ppg, 5.2rpg in 6 games. He spent last season in Texas rehabbing from two shoulder surgeries, and returned to competitive action this summer with the GB Under-20s, where he led them in scoring (22.3 ppg) and rebounds (8.1rpg). The 7 footer then received a call up to the GB Senior Men’s squad, where he was the last cut from the roster.
The Tigers went 24-3 last season and also competed in the Eurochallenge, the 3rd tier level trans-national men’s professional club basketball competition in Europe where they went 2-4 for a 3rd place finish in Group C.
