England Under-16 Mo Soluade (1995 born) has signed with ACB side Unicaja Malaga in Spain after impressing at a try-out last month.

The 6’4″ guard/forward has signed for at least two years, and will do his International Baccalaureate whilst pursuing his basketball career.

Unicaja Malaga is known for having one of the strongest junior development programmes in Spain so it seems a natural progression for the talented player originally born in London. It is expected he will begin with the junior team, and look to get a call up to the second team.

Soluade turned a lot of heads this summer when he led the England Under-16s to promotion to Division A whilst being named to the All Tournament Team as he finished with averages of 11.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.8 steals and 1 block per game.

Many know him in England as the athletic 15 year old who threw down this huge poster dunk last season in the under-16 Premier South.

His Father, Cyril Soluade, is extremely pleased for his son:

“I’m excited for Mo. To have the opportunity to continue to play and develop his basketball at the highest levels in Europe whilst also studying for his baccalaureate is an amazing opportunity.

“It’ll be a whole new world out there in Malaga for him and he will have to remain focused to face the challenge of staying on top of both his basketball and his studies. It won’t be easy but I know he can do it.”

Mo will not be the only British face in the Unicaja Malaga set up, as GB big man Joel Freeland is currently playing for the 1st team in the ACB.

Soluade played his club basketball with Bucks Hornets last season. He also had interest from Estudiantes and Union Olimpija in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Hoopsfix wants to wish Mo all the best with the next step in his basketball career! We will be following.
