First Cuts Made From GB Men’s Squad

The first round of cuts was made at the Great Britain men’s training camp on Friday, as Chris Ayer, Ashley Hamilton, and James Jones were all released, leaving the roster with twenty remaining players.

Head coach, Chris Finch commented:

“It is always difficult to make cuts and these three younger players did well. They have a future with the senior programme, no doubt. One of the strengths of our programme is that making the team is a process – the opportunity for players to show their talents and get to know the staff is valuable and will help everyone when it comes to selection for the next campaign.

“The staff is looking forward to the next two games in order to get a look at the remaining players in a competitive context.”

Team GB have their first friendly of the summer this weekend as they take on Netherlands on Sunday in Cobham, before facing Nigeria on Tuesday.

The roster for these games is now as follows;

There is still no official word on Ben Gordon, however, perhaps ominously, he does not appear on the 2011 team page on GB’s official website. Luol Deng and Robert Archibald are yet to join the team due to other commitments.
