England U16s Beat F.Y.R Macedonia in Opener
England Under-16s for their Division B European Championship campaign off to a winning start with a 73-60 victory over host nation F.Y.R Macedonia.
England were led by 20 points from Tyrell Isaacs, whilst a number of other players also had stand out performances. Mo Soluade flirted with a triple double, as he finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 8 steals whilst adding 3 assists and 3 steals, Kingsley Okoroh battled foul trouble to register 10 rebounds and 6 blocks in just 19 minutes. Sam Round added 15 points, with Luke Nelson contributing 13.
Head coach Simon Fisher was pleased with the result of the game, which was played in front of close to 1000 home fans:
“The opening game against the hosts is always a challenge, to overcome the intense heat, and atmospheric home crowd was a credit to the resolve of this group of players. However, we know this is just the start and back to back performances are the key to progression. We have areas to improve on, but it’s the start we wanted.”
