The fourth annual Future Stars International Basketball Tournament will descend upon Brunel University in Uxbridge, Middlesex, this year, featuring the Under 18 national teams from Slovenia, Sweden, Netherlands and England as well as a London United select team and a USA Select Team.
A number of top European prospects are expected to be on display, including Swedish teammates Marcus Eriksson (who put on a ridiculous shooting display last year) and 1994 born Nicholas Spires, as well as top English 1993 born prospects such as John Stewart and Simeon Esprit.
It is the first time the tournament, which is recognised as the highest level junior basketball tournament to take place on UK shores, features a US select team. Hailing from the East coast of the United States, they are led by 6’7″ would-be Pittsburgh commit Jaylen Bond (he de-committed in March, check his high school highlights regardless), a 2011 Pennsylvania (PA) state champion, first-team all-state selection, and PA state player of the year, and are expected to add a new dimension to the competition.
The event, organised by London United Basketball Club in association with it’s partner Harefield Academy, will take place from the 7th – 10th July 2011 and also features a coaching conference and community event.
The Coaching Conference will focus on the the development of young elite basketball players. Delegates will have an opportunity to learn about the most recent technical and tactical trends in basketball during interactive lectures delivered by leading specialists from Europe and the USA.
This year’s event will also mark the start of Future Stars becoming an official partner of Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity devoted to helping improve the lives of young people with cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust will be a benefactor of all profits generated by the event.
