Forty of the best 15 and 16 year olds in Europe will descend upon the UK next week to try and earn a spot in the International Game at this April’s Jordan Brand Classic. Only the best will be invited to join the Classic in the United States, along with other top players from around the world.
Four players have been selected to represent the UK; 1995 born players Tyrell Isaacs (5’11”, guard, Barking Abbey/Westminster Warriors), Kingsley Okoroh (6’11”, centre, Derby Trailblazers), Ben Mead (6’7″ forward, Ipswich Tomcats) and Mo Soluade (6’4″ guard/forward, Bucks Hornets).
The two-day training camp with 40 of the top prospects in Europe will see the players run through a series of drills and scrimmages led by basketball training experts Christopher Thomas and Ganon Baker, culminating in an All Star game on Sunday March 6th. Ten players will be selected as the Most Valuable Players from the camp and they will travel to the United States in April, along with six players from other regions of the world to compete in the fourth annual International Game as part of the Jordan Brand Classic at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte on Saturday. The game will be nationally televised live on ESPN2.
Previously the UK has been represented by Omari Coates (2010), Dale Francis (2010), Joe Hart (2009), & Devon Van Oostrum (2009) at the training camp. Kenroy Wood (left) remains the only British player to compete in the Jordan Brand Classic International Game in the US, after being named MVP of a separate one day UK camp in 2007.
The Jordan Brand Classic International Tour All Star game will be open to members of the public (free admission!) and take place on Sunday March 6th at 6.45pm at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford-be there!
