EAGLES REBOUND TO CLINCH SECOND SPOT

Small consolation but Newcastle Eagles have clinched runners-up spot in the BBL after coming from behind to see off Glasgow Rocks 92-83.

24 hours after losing their title, Fab Flournoy's side looked to be nursing a hangover when they trailed the visitors 53-44 at half-time.

And despite another fruitless night from three-point range, Newcastle came from as much as 12 behind, hitting back to go 69-67 in front at the end of the third.

Glasgow delivered a spirited display but with Reggie Jackson scoring 31, the Eagles pulled away with a 20-6 run.

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto made good on his promise to rest Nate Reinking as the newly-crowned champions lost 83-73 at Sheffield Sharks in the final game of their league campaign.

However Mersey's hopes of a treble may have sustained a blow after GB captain Drew Sullivan sustained a suspected ankle fracture iust before half-time.

In his absence, a 24-4 burst to end the first half for the Sharks saw the game broken open as their lead leapt out to 46-28.

And despite a 24-9 tear from the Tigers in the final quarter to trim the deficit back to just six points at 76-70, the Sharks secured the victory from the foul-line  to finish third in the standings.

Elsewhere, Sfefan Gill piled in 34 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists as Milton Keynes Lions held off Essex Pirates 110-104.

The visitors led 25-19 early on in the second quarter but an 8-0 run from the Lions saw them re-take the lead at 27-25 and they would not trail again in the contest.

Mike New's men extended their advantage to 15 points in the fourth but a 10-3 run from the Pirates saw the visitors close the gap to just four points with 31 seconds left before their luck faded.
