Carter Helps Seawolves to Upset, NCAA Recap

Stony Brook got a 69-47 upset victory over top seeded Vermont on Sunday in the semifinals of the America East Conference tournament.

The Seawolves (15-16), who won the regular-season conference title last season, avenged their 70-63 semifinal loss to Boston University in last year’s semifinals by defeating the team that ultimately won the 2010 conference tournament. Danny Carter had 6 points in 27 minutes off the bench, going 2/3 from deep.

Iona routed Rider 83-59 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament semifinal. Justin Robinson had 16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in 34 minutes, going 6/12 from the field and 2/2 at the line. Tom Pereira played 3 minutes, going 0/1 from deep to remain scoreless.

Long Island University got past Central Connecticut State 69-67 to advance to the Northeast Conference championship game. Devan Bailey played 12 minutes off the bench, going 1/2 from the field, for 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

College of Charleston got a 63-58 win over Furman on Sunday night in the Southern Conference tournament semifinals. Andrew Lawrence had 1 point in 27 minutes, going 0/1 from the floor and 1/2 at the line. They will face defending champion Wofford in the championship on Monday.

Robert Morris hit a fadeaway jumper with 6 seconds left to play, knocking out Quinnipiac 64-62 on Sunday in the Northeast Conference semifinals. For the third straight year, the Colonials (18-13) ended Quinnipiac’s NEC tournament run — defeating the Bobcats 52-50 in last year’s championship game and 75-48 in the 2009 semifinals. Raheem May-Thompson played 2 minutes, finishing with 1 rebound and 1 block.
