Vanderbeken Wins It At The Buzzer

Jamie Vanderbeken hit a turnaround 3 as time expired and Iowa State stunned Creighton 91-88 in Des Moines, spoiling Creighton Head Coach McDermott’s return to his home state. But photographs appeared to show that ball was still in Vanderbeken’s hands when the lights went off. Since the game wasn’t televised, though, replays weren’t available. Vanderbeken finished with 12 points on 5/9 shooting and 1/1 at the line, adding 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 3 blocks in 31 minutes.

A number of other Brits had strong performances. The much anticipated matchup between Justin Robinson (Rider) and Ashley Hamilton (LMU) resulted in a 73-63 victory for Rider. It was Hamilton who won the individual matchup though, scoring 14 points on 5/10 field goal shooting (4/4 at the line), before fouling out in 28 minutes. He added 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Justin Robinson played 35 minutes, struggled shooting a little (3/8), finishing with 9 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists.

The other under-the-radar battle of the Brits between Wagner (Clayfell Harris) and Stony Brook (Danny Carter), resulted in a Wagner win, defeating Stony Brook 58-54. Clayfell Harris unfortunately registered a DNP in this one whilst Danny Carter had his best game of the young season in the loss, scoring 14 points (5/12 from the field, 4/5 at the line), 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in 30 minutes.

St. Bonaventure ran away from Binghamton in the second half for a 69-44 victory. Ogo Adegboye played 38 minutes, also having his best game of the season, scoring 13 points (5/7 shooting, 0/1 at the line) along with a game-high 6 assists, 1 rebound, 3 steals and 1 block.

Loyola (Md.) used a second-half run to beat Dartmouth 73-59. Shane Walker had 8 points (4/6 shooting, 0/1 at the line), 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 4 blocks in 27 minutes.

Charleston won over Toledo 64-51. Andrew Lawrence played 27 minutes, going 2/5 from the field, for 6 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Portland State secured a 69-58 victory over UC Riverside. Paul Guede played 15 minutes off the bench, going 0/2 from behind the arc to remain scoreless, adding 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Illinois-Chicago defeated Rhode Island 74-68. Ben Eaves played 12 minutes, going 0/4 from the field to remain scoreless but secured 3 rebounds and blocked 1 shot.

SMU secured a 102-70 victory over Lamar. Myles Luttman played 3 minutes, making both his free throw attempts for 2 points, and 1 rebound.

Samford got a 60-56 victory over Campbell. Larry Awosanya registered a DNP. St. Francis (N.Y.) defense shut down Howard in a 70-52 blowout win. Richard Clark DNP.
