Pops will be at the New Orleans Hornets' training camp next week

A number of websites are reporting Pops Mensah-Bonsu is set to join the New Orleans Hornets at training camp this coming week.

The news comes after Mensah-Bonsu’s shock exit from Caja Laboral of the Spanish ACB league who he signed with this summer, but was released after failing a medical because of a lingering knee injury that many claim was widely known in basketball circles.

The reports will be well recieved by the British basketball community who have been in suspense for over a week after a couple of tweets from an NBA agent and Sacramento Kings rookie Demarcus Cousins suggested Pops will be making a return to the big league.

Mensah-Bonsu, 6-9, 235lbs, has played for four NBA teams since being signed by the Dallas Mavericks in 2006 as an undrafted free agent and has appeared in a total of 54 NBA games with the Mavs, Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. He has a 3.3 per game career scoring average.

He averaged 19.3 points and 13.5 rebounds per game this summer with Team GB as they qualified for their second successive Eurobasket.

The addition of Pops alongside Joe Alexander now puts the Hornets roster at 16 meaning Mensah-Bonsu will have to fight for his roster spot. The first of training camp two-a-days begins Sept. 28 at the team’s Alario Center practice facility.
