Disappointment For GB U20’s Despite Win

The GB U20’s were left gutted yesterday after Poland beat Austria to knock GB out of the running for a semi-final spot despite them beating the Slovak Republic 82-66 in the final game of the second round. The team will now go into a pool playing for fifth to eighth place.

The Poland win meant GB were edged out in a 3-way tie in Group F paying a heavy price for their 20 point loss to Austria earlier in the tournament.

Against the Slovak Republic Alex Marcotullio led GB with 17 points, whilst Ovie Soko had a strong all around game finishing with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Will Neighbour had 14 points and 7 rebounds and Andrew Lawrence added 12.

Full box score and play by play can be found here. GB’s next game will be tomorrow (Friday) against Portugal where they will begin their battle for a fifth place finish.
