The man behind the Future Stars International Junior Basketball Tournament, Jack Majewski, stressed the rarity and importance of tournaments such as his for the development of basketball in this country in a very brief catchup he had with Hoopsfix this week.
“Basketball fans in this country don’t have a chance to see these type of players (those competing at Future Stars) very often. Participating in Future Stars is also very important from a player’s point of view.This is the only chance for them to see what distance separates them from Europe’s best. There is no escaping the fact that,without frequent contact with top European basketball, there is no chance for English teams to be a recognisable force on the European scene. It is absolutely vital for the progress of domestic players.”
After expanding to a tournament in Poland this year as well, it seems the plans for Future Stars do not stop there. Jack continued to explain;
“To be perfectly honest, I think that we have a very promising concept which can be greatly developed. I really want to turn Future Stars into the most important junior event in Europe and expand to different European countries. I’m extremely lucky to work with very creative and supportive people and I’m confident that we can expand and improve our event beyond our wildest dreams”
To ensure you don’t miss out, get down to Kingston this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to see some of the top junior talent in Europe on our shores! More information can be found at the Future Stars official website.
