Joel Freeland Adds to GB’s Woes, Drops Out

The loss of Joel Freeland is devastating

In another devastating blow for Team GB’s Eurobasket 2011 campaign, Basketball 24/7 and Mark Woods are both reporting that Joel Freeland is the next player to be stuck on the sidelines this summer, though the reasons remain unclear. Mark Woods reports on his blog;

“Sources in Spain are hinting that Joel Freeland might also follow suit and remain on the sidelines this summer, dealing a potentially devastating blow.”

Whilst 24/7 have tweeted that it’s official:

“24/7 SOURCES: JOEL FREELAND OUT OF TEAM GB’S EUROBASKET QUALIFIERS”

Freeland would likely have been a key part of Finch’s front court rotation after an impressive season for Malaga in the ACB in Spain. With Nick George, Robert Archibald, Andy Betts and now Joel Freeland not playing this summer, Team GB’s chances of qualifying for Eurobasket 2011 have taken a huge hit.
