Durham Wildcats completed the Men’s Division 2 treble after beating Team Northumbria 70-67 yesterday, to add the playoff title to the Patron’s Cup and their regular season title. It was a valiant effort from Team Northumbria, who were down by 17 early in the game but came storming back into it before the final buzzer sounded.
It was an emotional win for the Wildcats who lost club secretary Pete Jaques last week. Runner up Division 2 Player of the Year Scott Morton led the Wildcats with 18 points, 5 assists and 4 steals, whilst Michael Davies had 17. Division 2 Player of the Year Paul Elderkin struggled, going 0/16 from the floor to finish with 4 points, but found other ways to contribute, grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing 3 assists, swiping 4 steals and adding 1 block.
Team Northumbria were led by David Wintersgill, who shot 8/9 from the field to finish with 17 points as the only player in double figures.
