The Club is deeply saddened by the loss of Brian Dobson, long-serving Assistant Coach of the Manchester Magic Division One Men’s team and voluntary administrator of Greater Manchester Community Basketball. He passed away on Sunday evening shortly after the team won the 2010 Playoff Final against the Derby Trailblazers. The team dedicated the win to Brian who had been in hospital for a little while.

The Club will greatly miss his immense hard work behind the scenes, especially the organisation of our major events, including the Senior Final Fours, the Haris International Tournament, the SureShot Boy’s National Cup and Magic home games. His great experience and knowledge of basketball enabled the Club to become such a big community within basketball. He also undertook the task of arranging the appointment of referees for all youth National League games at the Amaechi Basketball Centre.

He will be greatly missed by all in the basketball community.

Our thoughts are with his family – his wife, Marjorie, daughter Mandy, and Garry, Josh and Abigail.

Details on funeral arrangements will be released in the future.

I unfortunately only met Brian once, but in that one meeting he came across as such a genuine and caring individual, it is easy to see why he will be so sorely missed by many.

My thoughts go out to his family. RIP.
