The last British basketball player left in NCAA Division 1 postseason play, Ben Eaves and his Rhode Island Rams were knocked out last night in an overtime heartbreaker 68-67 to the North Carolina Tar Heels in the NIT semi finals.
In the extra session, North Carolina had possession with about 5 seconds left up 1 and the shot clock about to expire when Larry Drew II forced up a shot. The rebound eventually wound up in the hands of Rhode Island’s Lamonte Ulmer, who was clearly tripped and fell as he ran the ball up the court to attempt a last second shot. No whistle was blown and the Tar Heels won. You can see video of the offending play on the ESPN recap.
Ben Eaves played 17 minutes, going 1/3 on threes and 1/2 at the line for 4 points, adding 2 rebounds and 1 blocked shot.
