A terrible night for Brits playing NCAA Division 1 College basketball as they played 4 minutes between 5 of them…
Ben Daniels (6′6, 190lbs, G, Freshman, Manchester) Houston Baptist Huskies
Ben Daniels’ teammate Wendell Preadom scored 22 points and hit the go-ahead basket to lead Houston Baptist to an 80-77 victory over Chicago State in the first round of the Great West Conference tournament Wednesday. Not such as good news for Ben Daniels though as he registered a DNP.
The Huskies are 11-20 (9-3 Indep.).
Hugh Barnett (6′9, 265lbs, F/C, Senior, London) Arkansas Pine-Bluff Golden Lions
Arkansas-Pine Bluff overcame poor free throw shooting down the stretch to beat Mississippi Valley State 69-66 on Wednesday in the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament. Unfortunately our Brit Hugh Barnett did not get off the bench.
The second-seeded Golden Lions (15-15, 14-4 SWAC) advance to Friday’s semifinals to face the winner of Alabama State-Alabama A&M.
Kene Anusionwu (6′8, 215lbs, F/C, London) Bethune-Cookman Wildcats
Delaware held off a second-half rally to beat Bethune-Cookman 57-55 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday night. Kene Anusionwu registered another DNP in what has been a tough Senior season for him.
The Wildcats finished up 17-16 (7-9 MEAC).
Myles Luttman (6′11, 230lbs, C, Junior, Birmingham) Southern Methodist Mustangs.
UCF Knights defeated Southern Methodist 69-53 in the first round of the Conference USA tournament Wednesday night. Myles Luttman, who was the only Brit to get off the bench last night, finished with 4 minutes, grabbing 1 rebound to complete his line in the loss.
The Mustangs are 14-17 (7-9 C-USA).
Raheem May-Thompson (6′6, 200lbs, Freshman, F, London) Quinnipiac Bobcats
In a heartbreaking loss for May-Thompson’s Bobcats, Dallas Green deflected a potential game-winning shot then sank two free throws with 7 seconds left as Robert Morris beat Quinnipiac 52-50 for the Northeast Conference championship, the Colonials seventh title and second straight. Raheem was another who registered a DNP.
The Bobcats finished up 23-9 (15-3 NEC).
