Amari Williams has signed a multi-year contract with the Boston Celtics, upgrading his status from a two-way deal to a standard NBA contract.
According to Marc Stein, the Celtics have agreed a two-year, $2.7 million deal with the Nottingham-born big man, with the team later confirming the signing while not disclosing financial terms.
Williams initially joined Boston on a one-year, two-way contract after being selected 46th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, before earning a promotion midway through his rookie season.
The 24-year-old has appeared in 13 NBA games so far, including two starts, averaging 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.2 minutes per game.
He has also impressed in the G League with the Maine Celtics, averaging 15.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.8 blocks across 21 games.
Earlier this month, Williams posted a standout 33-point, 16-rebound performance against Capital City, before hitting a game-winning shot in overtime in Sioux Falls.
Williams becomes the first British-born player in Celtics history and is just the sixth homegrown Brit to be drafted into the NBA in the past 25 years, following Rob Archibald, Luol Deng, Joel Freeland, Ryan Richards and Jeremy Sochan.
A product of Mansfield Giants and Myerscough College, Williams spent four seasons at Drexel Dragons, where he was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year three times, before transferring to Kentucky Wildcats for the 2024-25 season.
At Kentucky, he averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists, recording one of only four triple-doubles in the programme’s history.
Standing 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Williams’ new deal further strengthens his footing at NBA level, with his long-term availability for Great Britain – where he is yet to appear with the Senior team – set to depend on his role and commitments in Boston.
