CoLA Southwark Pride defended their U18 Men’s National Cup with a dominant 93-57 victory over Derby Trailblazers on Saturday at University of Worcester Arena.

The unbeaten Londoners extended their perfect season, controlling proceedings from tip to buzzer as Derby struggled to find answers throughout.

“I’m really proud of the boys. It’s been a long journey, we’ve had a lot of injuries, a lot of things going on,” said head coach Jay Williams.

“They deserve it, they’ve worked really hard and I’m happy for them.”

Captain Toby Gass collected MVP honours with a game-high 28 points, hitting 5/7 from deep while adding four assists, two blocks and two steals. Daniel Banjoko had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Bilal Olowoshile had eight points and 11 rebounds.

CoLA held the Trailblazers to just eight points in the opening quarter and cruised throughout, there was a brief fight back from Derby to open the third but CoLA’s lead soon swelled past 20 points midway through the period and they never looked back.

Casey Burr’s 25 points were the lone bright spot for Derby, who fell to a second U18 Final defeat in three years.

Box score.
