Mate Okros Rewarded with Place on All-Tournament Team

Mate Okros was named to Division B European Championships All-Tournament Team in Sofia, Bulgaria after helping lead GB Under-16s to a fourth-placed finish.

The 2001-born guard becomes the fourth GB player – after Akwasi Yeboah, Kayne Henry-McCalla & Holly Winterburn – to be named to an All-Tournament Team at a European Championships this summer.

Okros averaged 17.1 points – fifth best in the tournament – along with 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in his second summer with the Under-16s.

In GB’s agonising defeat in the bronze medal game, Okros put up 25 points having hit double figures in each of the eight games played.

Okros produced impressive displays through the group stages as GB advanced with a perfect 5-0 record before dominating Hungary in the quarter-finals.

They eventually came up short with defeats to eventual champions Greece and then Georgia, but it was a strong showing from the Under-16s as GB for the first time with Okros receiving deserved recognition.

Greek captain Nikolaos Rogkavopoulos was named MVP, while Netherlands duo Rienk Mast and Tristan Enaruna also made the team alongside Georgia’s Rati Andronikashvilli, who denied GB promotion with the game-winner on Saturday.
