GB Under-16s Cruise Against Macedonia to Stay Perfect

Great Britain Under-16s stayed perfect at 3-0 with a 94-52 win over Macedonia at at the European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria on Saturday afternoon.

James Vear’s side sit atop of Group D, remaining alongside Portugal (who face Georgia this afternoon) as the only unbeaten sides in the group.

Mate Okros had 18 of his 22 points in the first half, going 9 of 14 from the field, Donaldson added 15 points, whilst Vasja Pandza and Tomiwa Sulaiman joined them in double figures with 10 each.

It was Macedonia who drew first blood, but a quick three-point response from Okros saw GB gain the lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way. GB reeled off a 9-0 run to gain control, leading 21-9 at the end of the opening period.

GB kept on pouring it on in the second. A tough baseline drive and finish at the rim from Mate Okros put GB up 47-22 at the halftime break, with Okros’ personal tally at 18.

GB continued where they left off in the second half, stealing the ball on the halftime opening inbounds and laying it up as a sign of things to come.

Back to back three pointers from Feeney opened the fourth, and gave GB their biggest lead of the game at that point at 37. The final nine minutes were a mere formality, as GB moved to 3-0, leading by as many as 43.
