Four Brits to Represent in NBA Summer League

There are four British players representing in the NBA Summer Leagues, that started in Orlando last week and begins in Las Vegas today.

Dan Clark (Brooklyn Nets), Joel Freeland (Portland Trail Blazers), Matthew Bryan-Amaning (Portland Trail Blazers) and Ryan Richards (San Antonio Spurs), all with GB Senior Caps, will suit up and look to try and get a call up to training camp, with the exception of Joel Freeland who is heading into the final year of his contract with Portland Trail Blazers.

Dan Clark

The GB starting forward returned to action in the Orlando Summer League, suiting up for the Brooklyn Nets, after missing almost the entire season due to injury. Though he is now fit and healthy, just under 3 weeks after competing in the Hoopsfix All Star Classic, Brooklyn didn’t give him much of an opportunity to showcase his skills.

Clark registered DNP-CD in three of Brooklyn’s four games, playing 9 minutes and missing his only field goal attempt in a 98-84 loss to OKC Thunder. Brooklyn went 1-3.

Joel Freeland

Freeland will once again suit up for Portland in the summer league, after confirming he is not playing for GB this summer to continue to focus on his NBA career. After a rocky rookie season, Freeland found a lot more success in his sophomore year, finishing up averaging 3.3 points and 4 rebounds per game while becoming a key part of Portland’s rotation in his 14 minutes per game.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning

Hoopsfix All Star Classic MVP, Matthew Bryan-Amaning, returns to the summer league after suiting up with the Bulls last year and New Orleans the year before. MBA will play with Freeland for Portland after a season where he played for four different teams; beginning in South Korea, suiting up temporarily for the London Lions, before ending up in France with Antibes and then finally Boulogne for a couple of games at the end of the year to help them gain promotion to Pro A.

Ryan Richards

Ryan Richards returns to the Spurs’ summer league roster for another year, after they drafted him with the 49th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. Starting the season in the United Arab Emirates, Richards ended up in Greece with Ikaros averaging 9.5 points, 4.9 rebounds in 24.9 minutes per outing.
