KORVER SETS NEW NBA THREE-STREAK

Korver 1Kyle Korver wrote his name into the NBA record books on Friday night by nailing a three-pointer for the 90th consecutive game.

The Atlanta Hawks guard earned groans at Phillips Arena when his first attempt to take sole possession of the mark fell short but he received an ovation when his second was converted with 5:29 left in the opening quarter of a 108-89 rout of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It erased the prior mark of Dana Barros, whose best of 89 had stood since 1996. Korver’s percentage during a run which began a year ago is 46.7%, well above Barros’ 44.2%, achieved with a smaller three-point line.

“I’m glad it’s done,” said Korver, who ended with 10 points. “I’ve been trying not to think about getting this close and not getting it. I’m glad it’s over and I’m proud of it.”

The Hawks will travel to London next month to face the Brooklyn Nets at The 02 Arena when Korver could be past the century mark if his streak goes on.

“We’ll just keep taking it one game it a time and try to keep getting good looks,” he told MVP. “It would be nice if it was (alive). I’m excited about it. It’s going to be great. If it was just going there and back in a day or two, it would be a long travel.

“But we get a couple of days to see the city and do some things. My wife is coming. She’s super-excited.”
