Great Britain star Pops Mensah-Bonsu has accepted an invitation to the Washington Wizards training camp, joining Eric Boateng as another Brit who will be looking to play his way into a contract for the coming season.
Mensah-Bonsu will have long shot odds at making the team, with Washington already having 15 players under guaranteed contract, but injuries that have sidelined starting centre Emeka Okafor and versatile reserve forward Chris Singleton have created a window that otherwise wouldn’t have been open.
Per team policy, terms of the deals were not released, as Mensah-Bonsu joins Josh Childress, Xavier Silas and D’or Fischer with invites to the camp that opens up today.
The 6’9″ athletic forward will be looking to make his way back to the League having played 61 career NBA contests with Dallas, San Antonio, Toronto, Houston and New Orleans, averaging 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 8.3 minutes per game.
Mensah-Bonsu appeared in six games with Cajasol in Spain and nine games with EA7 Armani in Italy during the 2012-13 season, averaging 7.3 points and 6.1 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game.
