Ravaged by absences and injuries, head coach Joe Prunty has called up Paul Guede as a late addition to the Great Britain Senior Men roster.
With Dan Clark still unable to join the team whilst rehabbing an ankle injury, Andrew Lawrence having missed the last two games, and Alex Marcotullio also battling for fitness, Guede who can play both guard and small forward, has been given the nod.
“I have decided to add Paul at this time to strengthen our training squad,” said Prunty. “He is an accomplished guard that will help our preparation for EuroBasket.”
The 6’5″ wing, who graduated from Portland State University in 2011, averaged 10.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1 steal per game last season in Germany’s Pro A for regular season runners up BG Göttingen, and became known as a defensive stopper whilst at college.
“It’s an honour to be invited to camp as there are so many talented players in Great Britain,” Guede added. ” I feel very blessed and extremely excited about this opportunity.”
Guede represented the GB U20s in 2006 and 2007, before taking part in the GB Futures programme in 2011, as well as a stint in the senior men’s training camp in 2008.
GB are currently in Poland, where they will face Sweden on Friday afternoon and Poland on Saturday, they will then play Spain on Wednesday and Thursday to complete their Eurobasket preparations.
A decision on the final squad to travel to Slovenia for EuroBasket 2013 will be made after the tournament in Poland.
