GB Win Closed Door Game vs Puerto Rico

Great Britain Senior Men got their second victory of the summer on Monday evening, beating Puerto Rico in overtime 68-63 at the Copper Box.

It was an unofficial game, played behind closed doors, but allowed Head Coach Joe Prunty to see more of his players and prepare further for the team’s forthcoming trip in Europe. Fifteen of the seventeen players in the squad played, with only Dan Clark (ankle) and Andrew Lawrence resting.

None of the starters from Sunday’s game played more than 12 minutes, with the rest of the bench being given a good run.

Devon van Oostrum made his mark on the game, finishing with 15 points, 4 assists and 3 steals and hitting the game-sealing three point play according to MVP, whilst Ali Fraser joined him in double digits with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

“I would like to thank Puerto Rico and coach Carlos Calcano for two very competitive and hard fought basketball games,” commented Prunty after two game series:

“Both games were excellent opportunities for us to learn about ourselves and play against a well-coached quality opponent. I wish them well the rest of the summer.”

Box score.
