Guy Goodes Appointed as GB Senior Men’s Assistant Coach

Guy Goodes has been appointed as Joe Prunty’s assistant coach for the Great Britain Senior Men this summer, as reported by Eurobasket.com.

The Israeli-born Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv assistant with British-Israeli dual nationality, was said to have originally applied for the head coaching position, but will join Prunty’s bench at Eurobasket 2013 in Slovenia, where GB are set to face Israel in their opening Group A game on September 4th.

“I’m very happy to join the GB national and to work with Joe Prunty,” he said. “I would like to thank Maccabi for giving me the opportunity to take this job also and I’m looking forward to success with the national team.”

Goodes retired in 2004 after a successful professional career where he also represented the Israeli national team for four years.

After retiring, the now 43 year old Goodes coached Maccabi Rishon Le-Zion before he joined Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv in 2006 as an assistant coach. In 2008 he was appointed to be the head coach of Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem but soon returned to Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv as an assistant coach in 2010.

Besides Israel and Great Britain, Group A also includes Ukraine, France, Belgium and Germany.
