England Under-17s Finish 3-1 Against Ireland

The England Under-17s finished with a 3-1 record against Ireland over the weekend, with two dominating second half performances on Saturday followed by a close loss on Sunday.

Following on from their series-opening victory on Friday, the U17s played twice on Saturday with a 71-38 win in the first game, and a 70-42 victory in the second.

In the opening game of the day, they led just 35-31 heading into the final quarter, but produced an offensive outburst in the final period to more than double their score. Liam Carpenter top scored for England with 18 points, Kingsley Nwagboso had 14 and Patrick Whelan added 10 points.

It was a similar story in the second game of the day as England broke open a close game in the second half by pouring in 48 points after the break to leave Ireland in their wake. Callum Lawson, Earl Russell and Tolu Awojobi all scored 11 points each.

The boys’ chances of a perfect weekend were ended on Sunday when they failed to score in the final two minutes and their hosts came away with a 52-44 win.

No England player reach double figures, with Patrick Whelan having 9 points to lead the team, whilst Liam Carpenter and Kingsley Nwagboso added 6 each.
