Birmingham native and John Brown University’s Kofi Josephs has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
Josephs, a 6’5″ sharpshooter, averaged 12.6 points during the regular season, good for second in scoring amongst SAC freshman. He led the Golden Eagles in total three-pointers (70), while knocking down 48 triples during SAC play, good enough for second overall in the league. Josephs also ranks no. 21 in the nation in total three pointers, and no. 25 in three point field goal percentage, hitting them at a 41.9% clip.
“It feels great to be recognised as Freshman of the Year,” said Kofi when talking to Hoopsfix.com. “I put a lot of hard work in and feels good that it’s been recognised by people outside our organisation.”
Josephs has helped John Brown University to being ranked the number 3 NAIA team in the country, the highest placing the team has ever achieved, and helped make it the first time the Golden Eagles have won the conference championship before conference play was over.
Josephs was the only SAC Player of the Week recipient that John Brown featured this season, as he averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds over the course of the 7 days, lifting John Brown to victories against then-No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist and Mid-American Christian during Jan. 14-20.
