This weekend, Memphis Grizzlies’ star Rudy Gay was in London, attending the NBA 3X Tour at Westfield shopping centre. On our Facebook and Twitter we asked you to send through your questions for him – check out our reader Q & A below!
How have you enjoyed London?
– @Kellyhammond_93
Rudy Gay (RG): I’ve enjoyed London, I love London I’m used to living in Memphis so it’s nice to see a different atmosphere. I managed to take in a soccer game too which I enjoyed. I saw Arsenal beat Southampton 6-1.
Coach K is stepping down from the US who would you like to see coaching the US national team?
-Anon
RG: Hmm, someone like Doc Rivers or maybe Coach Popovich – they have both done a great job where they are.
How big of an influence was Coach Calhoun on you?
– Andrew Milne
RG: He was a big influence on me, he’s a great coach and great mentor, and I still speak to him.
What type of workouts do you do?
-Elmi Awil
RG: Lots of sprints, a lot of shuttles, a lot of shots and a lot of weightlifting, all the things to try and keep your body in shape.
Who inspired you growing up?
– Dev Dhokia
RG: Michael Jordan mainly, I used to like Shawn Kemp, Detlef Schrempf and Chris Mullin too.
And now, who in the league who do you admire?
– Dev Dhokia
RG: I can’t admire anybody… I don’t have time to!
What is your favourite dunk that you’ve done?
– @radiobasket
RG: I don’t know, I can’t really tell you which one is better than another? When you do one in a game and you know it is good it is nice. It feels good when you get a good reaction from the crowd.
In the NBA there has been a lot of talk of super teams; would you like to form a super team?
– Pras Geng
RG: I wouldn’t mind forming up a super team, I’m kind of in one now with me Marc and Zach, I wouldn’t mind teaming up but it’s just all about winning!
Have you got any advice for someone in the UK wanting to play in the NBA?
-Anon
RG: Work! It’s not a day in the park at all it’s a lot of hard work.
What do the Grizzlies have to do to reach the next level?
– Matty Jones
RG: We have to be more disciplined; we have the talent we just have to be more disciplined, we’re very close.
What do you make of the 3X tournament?
-Anon
RG: It was fun, it was a good situation, something we should bring in back in the States. We had a great turnout and hopefully the next one we can make it equally as good if not better!
