British Basketball has named a 15-strong Great Britain Futures squad to meet Lithuania’s Under-23 team in three friendlies next month in Guildford.
Senior men’s assistant coach Paul Mokeski will be the head coach of a team which includes a number of senior internationals including Devon van Oostrum, Ogo Adegboye and Andrew Lawrence.
The group will hold a training camp in Surrey, starting on June 4, before meeting Lithuania on June 7, 8 and 9. However only the latter game, held at Surrey Sports Park, will be open to the public.
The series will offer a number of prospects the chance to press their case for places on GB’s Olympic roster, including Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Ryan Richards and Ashley Hamilton, who missed out on last summer’s EuroBasket finals.
“I am excited and honoured to be the head coach of the GB Futures team,†Mokeski said. “This will be my third year with the GB programme and the experience has been very rewarding.
“The Futures programme is very important in the development of young players and gets them ready for the transition into the senior squads. This year the Futures program is the beginning of our preparation for the Olympics in London this summer.”
During camp, the Futures players are constantly reviewed with each athlete aspiring to be selected to attend the senior men’s training camp.
