Charlotte Bobcats’ Byron Mullens To Join GB

Charlotte Bobcats big man Byron Mullens will be the newest addition to Great Britain this summer, as first reported by MVP.

The seven-foot Mullens has tweeted a picture of his new British passport, which he is eligible for through his mother hailing from Middlesex, stating:

The Ohio-born 23 year old is in the midst of having his best year as a pro, currently coming off the bench for the Bobcats whilst averaging career highs of 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game.

Despite MVP reporting him being a certainty to be included in Chris Finch’s intial squad, his tweet may be a little premature as his final roster spot is most certainly not assured just yet as GB’s training camp is set to open in Houston on June 11th.

The addition of Mullens will no doubt continue to fuel the criticism of GB’s staff for passport-chasing ‘plastic Brits‘. Along with Luol Deng and Ben Gordon, Mullens, who was drafted with the 24th pick in the 2009 draft by Dallas (who immediately traded his rights to Oklahoma City, where he spent two season before being traded to Charlotte), makes it three NBA players on GB’s roster.

What do you think of the new addition? Drop a comment and let us know!
