Video: Bristol’s Mostapha Alfaki Wins it At the Buzzer!

A crazy game in Leeds on Sunday saw Bristol Academy Flyers down by as many 20 come back and win the game on a buzzer beating three pointer courtesy of Mostapha Alfaki!

Alfaki was 0/3 from the field up until that point but made it when it counted the most, getting the defender on his heels with a jab step before launching a quick release from a foot behind the arc.

Watch the first version of the video with no clock; all seems well right? If you go by when the buzzer goes off, the shot should definitely have counted – so you can’t fault the refs.

However, now watch the second version with the clock. The clock was synched with the game clock (there is a frame in the clip where you can clearly see the game clock displaying 4.0 seconds which is the marker I used), but now it appears as though the buzzer actually went off late. Using the game clock it seems as though the ball could still be in Alfaki’s hands at 0.0.

Now watch the final version which is completely slowed down with sound, and you can clearly see the ball is in his hands, and hear the buzzer going off after the clock has already struck 0.0.

If anyone wants a case for not relying on human reaction time to end a basketball game, this is it! Regardless, Bristol won and Mostapha hit a huge shot, so props to him!
