NCAA: LAWRENCE MAKING WAVES

Great Britain guard Andrew Lawrence continued his fast start to the season with three impressive performances for Charleston this week.
Lawrence had his first ever double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 assists against UCF. He followed that up with 11 points, six assists and three rebounds against UNC-Asheville, and a solid all-round outing against UMass where he recorded five points, five boards, three assists and two steals.

The London native has been arguably the best British player in college basketball so far this year, leading Charleston to a 5-2 record as the Cougars’ starting point guard.

Two other British guards who made some noise this week were Adam Thoseby and Ben Mockford. Thoseby had a career high nine points against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, then surpassed that mark five days later with 16 against Idaho State. Mockford also had a career high with 22 against NJIT on 8-15 shooting, including six threes.

There were also some solid performances from British bigs this week. Shane Walker continued his solid play as he notched 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks against Florida Gulf Coast. Walker did struggle with his shot (going 2-10), however, and committed four turnovers.

Ovie Soko put up an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double as UAB beat Troy for their first win of the season. He followed that up with a six-point, seven-rebound effort against Wichita State, and 12 & 6 against UT Martin.

Monmouth centre Phil Wait posted career highs in points (13) and rebounds (9), though it wasn’t enough to stop the Hawks losing to Brown.

Will Neighbour led UALR off the bench with 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in a loss to Milwaukee, but it wasn’t his best shooting night as he went 1-6 from downtown and 5-15 overall.

Maine’s Scottish forward Alasdair Fraser put up 12 points and four rebounds in a victory over Holy Cross.
