London to Pay Tribute to Mantia Callender

Following the tragic loss of England basketball legend Mantia Callender, Westminster Warriors and Peckham Pride will be paying tribute with an event that has been dubbed “Mantia Callender Day”.

The life of Callender, a former England international and one of the first ever English players to win an NCAA Division 1 scholarship, will be celebrated with a day of basketball at Moberly Sports Centre this Saturday (3rd December).

Four national league games will be played, and fittingly, the final game will be a Mens Division 1 clash between the two main teams Mantia played for in England: Westminster Warriors and Brixton Topcats.

Mantia sadly passed away suddenly at just 38, on Tuesday 22nd November leaving a loving wife (Becky) and 2 beautiful young daughters (Jalen & Tamar).

The full schedule for the day is as follows;

12.30pm Westminster Warriors vs Solent Kestrels (U16s)
2.15pm Peckham Pride vs Solent Kestrels (U15s)
4.00pm Westminster Warriors vs Solent Kestrels (U18s)
6.00pm Westminster Warriors vs Brixton Topcats (EBL D1 Men)

Entrance will be priced at £5, and there will also be a fundraising auction, with all proceeds from the day being passed on to Mantia’s family.

You can find more information about the event on Facebook here.

Make sure you get down to Moberly on Saturday to pay tribute to one of the all time greats! See you there.
