Great Britain star Luol Deng is being lined up for a move to Besiktas as fears grow that the entire NBA season will be cancelled.
The Chicago Bulls forward, who is currently visiting his birthplace in South Sudan, is understood to given the green light for his representatives to discuss contract offers in Europe, with the Turkish League leaders emerging as the frontrunners for his signature, according to sources in London.
Based on the costs of his insurance to play for Britain at EuroBasket, any European team would likely have to pay around £300,000 in premiums against the remainder of his current contract in Chicago.
However Deng is determined to remain match-fit ahead of next summer’s Olympics in his adopted hometown and Besiktas – who have already signed NBA All Star Deron Williams – could be the perfect fit.
“I’d like to play in Europe,†Deng confirmed recently, ahead of the latest round of failed negotiations between the NBA and its players which has seen all games cancelled until mid-December amid a threat of a lengthy court case which could drag on for several months.
The ex-Brixton Top Cats junior has also been linked with ACB side Bilbao.
